In January I wrote about the baby shower we were thrown by my mom and sisters. It was still pretty early in my pregnancy (just into the second trimester), but they decided to do it because it was the only opportunity we would have to be in town with our friends and family (in an entirely different state). It was small, but lovely and we have felt so blessed by the generosity of those who were able to attend, as well as some who could not make it.
One of the down sides to this shower, though, is that my in-laws could not be there. They live in yet another state, and it just wasn’t feasible for them to make the trip. Then about a month ago we learned that their church wanted to throw us a baby shower. My father-in-law is the pastor for this church, and both he and my mother-in-law are truly beloved and respected by the members there. They threw us a wedding shower after our wedding, and have since taken an interest in how we are. So they want to throw us this shower, but we can’t travel several states over to be there. So they are doing it anyway, and we are going to FaceTime in!
Yes, you read that correctly. This Sunday afternoon their church is having a baby shower for us in one state, while we video chat with them from our state. The future is here! We have already received a couple of gifts that were sent directly to us via Amazon (where our registry is), and whatever gifts are unwrapped at the party will be transported to us in May by my in-laws.
It will be interesting to see how this works out, but whatever the result the bottom line is that we have been incredibly blessed by others throughout this pregnancy.
I will update early in the week and let you know how our long-distance baby shower went, and MAYBE even have some pictures of the nursery by then!
